Ancient Hawaiian culture the revered the ulua as a strong warrior. Legends say that the demigod Maui caught a giant ulua, Pimoe, whose flesh broke apart into eight pieces forming the Hawaiian Islands.
The giant trevally, giant kingfish, or ulua in Hawaiian, is a large fish that inhabits tropical reefs. The fish grow up to 5 ½ feet (170 cm) and 175 lbs (80 kg). It is a favorite catch of fisherman.
